Here is a different slant on padding C5, the plate tuning capacitor, for proper tank Q on 80 and 160 meters, with less parts. Notice C6 and C7 and where they are connected. The normal wasteful way is to use an additional switch which adds padding capacitors in parallel with C5 for 80 and 160. For design and function connecting the right sides of C6 and C7 to the 50 Ohm RF output is such a low impedance that its no different than connecting them to chassis ground. In new design the 80 and 160 pi's are the last image section in Pi-L design. A extra pro is reduced voltage rating for C6 and C7.
Besides many applications in new design this method resolves problems in Old Design such as arching on padding contacts in the Johnson Valiant Transmitter. Easily allows adding 160 Meters to 80 -10 Meter transmitters.
